MEMORIAL DAY BOOTS OF REMEMBRANCE COMES INDOORS AT VFW POST 577
Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a time to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.
This year marks the first INDOOR "Boots of Remembrance” display hosted by VFW Post 577. The exhibit was created as a visual tribute to fallen service members and a place for the community to pause, reflect, and honor their sacrifice.
In previous years, the Post was honored to display boots, identification tags, and photographs of fallen Oklahoma service members from multiple wars and conflicts through items generously loaned to the exhibit. This year’s display features new Desert Storm-era combat boots arranged in our Multi-Purpose Hall as symbols of remembrance and respect.
While the current display does not yet include the personal photographs, or identification tags that made earlier exhibits so deeply personal, Post 577 hopes to grow the memorial over time with help from Veterans, families, and the community.
Donations Sought for Future Displays
VFW Post 577 is currently accepting donations of:
Used military boots from fallen soldiers and former service members (any branch, any condition, PRE-Desert Storm)
Military identification tags of fallen Oklahoma service members
Photographs of fallen Oklahoma service members
Items may be donated individually or as a complete set to remain together, whenever possible. The goal is to continue building a meaningful memorial that honors Oklahoma’s fallen heroes and preserves their memory for future generations.
Memorial Day traces its roots to the years following the Civil War, when communities gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. Today, displays such as "Boots of Remembrance” continue that tradition by offering a visible reminder that freedom comes at a cost.
VFW Post 577 welcomes the community to visit the display and honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
The 2026 display is open Saturday, May 23 to Monday, May 25 from 9 am to 5 pm.
The optional Saturday morning breakfast buffet is $10 and open between 8 am and 11 am.
Plenty of free parking. VFW Post 577, 1109 E 6th St, Tulsa, OK 74120
